Trolls: A Field Study by Thomas Dambo – World Premiere Outdoor Exhibition

Trolls: A Field Study by Thomas Dambo
The world premiere of the all-new traveling exhibition, Trolls: A Field Study by Thomas Dambo opens at Whipsnade Zoo on June 21, 2025!

In this brand new outdoor exhibition, 12 of Thomas Dambo's signature folklore-inspired trolls are on a journey to unravel the mysteries of human behavior. These trolls, crafted from fallen branches, wooden pallets and twigs, invite you to participate in a “field study” and discover a fresh perspective on what it means to be human.

Head of Events & Programming at Zoological Society of London, Victoria Sage, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the trolls to Whipsnade Zoo for this exhibition world premiere. As the UK’s largest zoo, it’s a place where nature and wildlife come together, where kids and grown-ups alike can have fun, explore, and learn together - creating shared moments of wonder along the way.”

Trolls: A Field Study by Thomas Dambo not only expands Imagine’s collaboration with Thomas Dambo, but also supports the artist’s global initiative, Trail of a Thousand Trolls, which currently includes more than 157 permanent or semi- permanent sculptures worldwide.

President & CEO of Imagine, Tom Zaller, said, “At Imagine, we’re not just building exhibitions, we’re building experiences that drive attendance, expand audiences, and support our partners’ missions. Our continued collaboration with Thomas Dambo through Trolls: A Field Study reflects our commitment to delivering story-rich attractions that perform.”

Artist Thomas Dambo added, “I started building trolls to tell stories about nature, recycling, and the things we throw away. The reach of these traveling exhibitions has helped take that message farther than I ever hoped.”
